Optimizing Adsense For Better Performance And More Profits!

Listen to this article Listen to this article as an mp3 file
So you want to make money with Google Adsense? I don't blame you, who doesn't want esidual income! This article will show you how to better optimize Google Adsense to make more money from your web site(s).

Before we get into it, learn more about Google Adsense here:

http://www.google.com/services/adsense_tour/

First and foremost is: Positioning

Where you position your Adsense link boxes and banner ads is extremely important. Trying to make money from the bottom of your pages within your website just won't cut it. You need to add your Adsense links right in the heart of your template or right in the heart of your content. I would personally suggest both actually.

Adding Adsense in the heart of your template

Link Units:

Since the introduction of Google Adsense "link units", we can now add what looks like a "menu system" to compliment our menu system within our website. This is HUGE. Have you ever just clicked on a website and kept clicking on the menu links? I know we all have. By adding a "Google link units" to your menu, you will get more clicks than you thought possible.

Try adding the link units near the top for better performance and try creating your link units to match the color of your menu system in place. Once in a while I find myself clicking on a menu link unit without even realizing it which in turn gives more money to the website owner.

Leaderboards & Skyscrapers:

These may very well be your "bread & butter". I only say this because of the sheer size of these ads units. The best place to add these ad units is obvious; Straight across the very top of your website (leaderboards), and straight down the side of your template (skyscrapers). Anywhere else may not look proper within your template and may look unprofessional.

Square & Rectangle Ad Units:

These are great to compliment the mass amount of content within your website and also within your recommended resources. You want to compliment your content, you don't want Adsense to BE your content because this will look poor on your part. Adsense is very popular with webmasters; who doesn't want to make some extra money. However, don't forget that many of your visitors are also used to seeing Adsense within a website, and need a good reason to click on them.

Square and rectangular units are great to use within articles posted on your website or within your link resources. Try adding your Adsense boxes above your resource links within a page to give your Adsense account that added extra exposure.

Just remember that Google allows up to 3 ad units per page. Using these 3 strategies will help to better optimize Adsense for positioning! Let's now go onto targeting...

Optimizing Adsense: Taking out non-related ads!

Do you ever wonder how ads like "business card specials" ever get displayed on to your website when your company content is all about baby clothing? Since the introduction of "Adwords Site Targeting", we now have to keep an eye on the ads being displayed on our website(s). Companies may now specifically target your website for more exposure. There is no restriction whether the website is content related or not, just more marketing exposure for the advertiser.

Filtering Adsense Advertisers

Within your Adsense manager, you have the option of using the "Competition Filter" which allows us to remove certain websites from the ads being displayed regularly. This is going to be an on-going optimization task in the future. Without filtering the ads being displayed within your website, you might find yourself with ads unrelated to your industry and possibly some ads that have a negative effect within your site.

If you don't remove all the unwanted ads being displayed on your website, you might end up hurting your Adsense performance online. The more targeted you can get your Google Adsense ads to display on each page, the better your chances at being able to make more money. Try to take a moment every week to study the ads being displayed on your website.

Open up a note pad, or word document and record all the websites you don't want to be displayed anymore. Add these sites to your "filter list" within your Adsense account.

Remember to add the website (within your filter list) like so: smartads.info - without the www. Adding anything after or before the url will only prevent the company from displaying one of their many ads like so (www.site.com/ads/1.html). This way you stop anything from the entire website from showing up within your Adsense campaign online. The more you optimize your Adsense filter, the better your performance will pick up and the less non-related ads will be displayed on your website.

One constant that holds true with Adsense

The more pages you have with your Adsense campaign being displayed, the more you WILL make.

People who have online networks immediately can profit from Google Adwords because they have the power to add their Adsense boxes & banners onto multiple websites, possibly 1000's of pages.

Should you add Adsense to your website?

If you own a small company that has a brochure type website that gets maybe 50-100 visitors a day, I recommend NOT adding Adsense to your site. It will never make enough money with that kind of traffic. Remember: Your Adsense campaign needs to make over $100 to get paid out.

If your company receives around 500-1000+ visitors a day, you can now start considering to make money through Google. Adsense is all about numbers. Play the numbers to make more money. In fact, try making goals for yourself to make X amount of dollars through your Adsense account by a certain time. Doing this will only increase your business and make your company more powerful online by increasing the amount of traffic it receives.

For multiple websites, channels are important

Google allows you to track the performance of multiple websites all in one account which ultimately gives you the ability to track how many visitors you're getting for each website.

It also allows you to work harder on those sites that aren't up to par.

I consistently look at each individual website channel to work harder at promoting the ones that aren't performing well. By doing this, we increase the amount of promotion going into the websites that under perform, and in turn eventually increase the business for those websites as well. The more you promote your website, the more the exposure you will ultimately deliver for your Adsense campaign and your company.

Google Search with Adsense

To top all that off, you can add Google search within your site to give visitors a search function for your content and to allow people to also click on your Adsense program. Please note that for Google search to work, your website and all of its content pages must already be indexed by Google. Adding the Google search bar to your site right away won't help your visitors at all.

The Easy Way to Create an Endless Stream of Profits!

Listen to this article Listen to this article as an mp3 file
Dear Internet Profits Blog reader,

I'm back again with more EXCITING news! Yes, it's me, Valeriu.

As a valued readre of my blog I wanted to let you know that version 1.53 of XSitePro has just been released minutes ago and there's something in it that I'm sure will appeal to you.

This new version is more of a maintainance release than a new features release, BUT the "new thing" that is great is that there are over 100 new sales letter templates included with it, which means it's even quicker and easier to produce great new sites in hours rather than days or weeks.

xsitepro template  xsitepro template  xsitepro template

I've included a list of the other changes below, but I'm sure you'll agree that the addition of all these new templates really will help you boots your internet profits.

Changes in Version 1.53 of XSitePro software

- Added over 100 new templates and split the sales letter templates into two categories -- with and without graphical headers.

- There is a new button on the designer which will allow you to paste code from Microsoft Word a lot more effectively. It will remove all of the extra formatting information which was previously causing layout problems. You may find that some of the Word formatting is lost when you paste using this method because Word was using some non-standard way of formatting.

- Added a new script to the script wizards: Close Window. This is useful for adding to popups and any other links that are opening in new windows.

- You can change the language for the spellchecker and specify whether you would like the US, International or combined English dictionary. (The setting is available on the Tools menu, on the Settings submenu)

- The Date and the Future Date scripts have 6 extra date formats which only include the month and the year.

Click here to download your XSitePro software copy right now!

XSitePro software has some problems, but Paul Smithson and his team works hard and here's the latest bug fixes:

- There was a bug which was causing the Tools menu to display incorrectly in some XP themes. This has been fixed.

- If you deleted an Adsense account you were no longer able to add AdSense boxes to a site which had previously used that account. This has been fixed.

- The alphabetical site map was not being created with the correct filename and so the link to it was broken. This has been fixed.

- The date format in the Google sitemap has been altered to try and fix the invalid date format error reported by some users.

- The "Link in new window" script had problems if quotes were placed in the status text. This has been fixed.

- The Right click menu in designer is now updated to include files that are added using the File Manager on the Other tab as soon as they are added. The system used to only update this list when you restarted it.

- Added progress dialogs when you are loading the To Do reports to show that the system is creating the report.

- Alt tags and Title tags for images were ending up as "undefined" if they were left blank. This has been fixed.

- There have been some users experiencing crashes if they do not have some fonts installed. This has been fixed.

- Some users have experienced crashes when switching between pages if they are on the Design tab. This has been fixed.

"Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish."

Double Your Internet Profits In Less Than One Hour!

Listen to this article Listen to this article as an mp3 file
Hi,

Valeriu it's here... again!

After the rush getting small changes to my web site in order to improve my SERP'S last week, I finally managed to drag myself away from my desk for a big Jacobs, which, just in case you're wondering, is a black coffee...

I don't know about you, but sometimes I find it works wonders to drag myself away from my desk and have a change of location.

It really helps to get the creative juices flowing.

When I emailed my subscribers last week regarding the new version of XSitePro I'd planned on just sending out a list of all the new features and leaving it at that, but I didn't feel that was fair as it would only give them part of the picture. There are so many benefits to using XSitePro that I wanted to run through some of the key benefits one at a time. And I want to share this with ALL my Internet Profits Blog readers...

Before I tell you about some of the great features in the latest version of XSitePro, let me quickly recap on what this web site management software can do for you.

In a nutshell XSitePro is the internet marketer's answer to Frontpage and Dreamweaver. It approaches the whole process of site design from an on-line marketer's perspective rather than from a web designers point of view.

With XSitePro you can produce top quality sites in hours rather than weeks and months and you don't need a college diploma in web site design to play.

If you've struggled trying to get to grips with Frontpage or Dreamweaver you'll find XSitePro is far easier to master.

It comes with a full-blown "what-you-see-is-what-you-get", which means you can see what your page is going to look like as you design it. There are also dozens of design wizards to help you insert key elements such as testimonial boxes, guarantee graphics, highlighted text, graphical frames, even PayPal logos.

As you add more pages to your sites you can choose whether to have those pages added to the navigation menu. XSitePro will you've already created without you having to lift a finger.

You can generate links pages and site maps with just a few mouse clicks and you can even check all your pages to make sure that they are optimized for the search engines. So, not only does XSitePro help you to have great looking sites, it also helps you to create sites that rank well too - and all in a single piece of software.

One of the new features that's been a real hit with existing users is the Google Site Map creation tool. You've probably read over the past few weeks that you can now submit a special XML site map directly to Google, and that this is likely to help with your search engine rankings.

"What's an XML site map?" I can hear you asking and "Haven't I seen tools being advertised for $97 that claim to do this Google site map stuff?".

Well, the great thing with XSitePro is that you don't need to know the technicalities as XSitePro does it all for you, and as it's included in the brand new version of the software you won't have to pay a single cent extra.

Another feature in the new version of XSitePro that really takes the software to the next level is the Import feature. Once you get the hang of this feature you really will be creating amazing sites in record time.

Let me give you an example of how it works.

Imagine you had a folder on your computer that had fifty articles in. These might be articles you've found at the various article directory sites or maybe you generated them using some software you already own. XSitePro can suck these in so they follow the same theme as the rest of the pages you've already created.

Another great new feature lets you preview Google Adsense ads BEFORE you insert them into your pages.

I'm sure you've seen Google Adsense ads on lots of web sites and maybe you've gone through the laborious process of logging into your Adsense account at Google, entering the settings for an ad and then cutting out the code and pasting it into your own pages. With XSitePro you can forget all of this completely. All you do is right-click where you want the ad to appear, select the Adsense style you want -- you can see exactly what it is going to look like in the preview window -- and then click OK. The whole process takes less than 30 seconds.

If you've not implemented Google Adsense on your sites then XSitePro will make it so simple. It's a quick and easy revenue stream that's well worth considering.

If you already have AdSense ads on your sites you can use XSitePro to add channel capabilities and customize your AdSense ads to be exactly how you want them to be -- and all without having to edit a single line of code.

There is also available a comprehensive list of tokens in the new version. Don't worry if you don't have a clue what tokens are - they're really easy to use. A token is simply a word surrounded by curly brackets that is replaced by something else when you publish.

For example if you typed the following text on one of your web pages:

Today's date is {%DATE%}.

when you published that page the token, i.e. {%DATE%}, would be replaced with the date so it would read:

Today's date is 16 September 2005.

There are twenty-two tokens to choose from so you can do some pretty amazing stuff. This kind of thing is terrific as it lets you do things that would normally require some serious programming expertise.

Something else you'll find in the very latest version is a completely updated 419 page manual. Yes four-hundred-and-nineteen pages. This is not some flimsy excuse for an instruction book that leaves you with lots of unanswered questions, it's a detailed step-by-step manual that covers EVERY feature of the software.

Now, before you start thinking you are going to have to read the whole manual let me stress that it is NOT intended to be read from cover-to-cover. This is not the latest Harry Potter. It's a reference guide for those occasions when you get stuck and need some help. It's fully indexed so that you can find what you need help on quickly and easily, so you won't have to read through hundreds of pages to find what you are looking for -- you can just find it in the index and turn straight to that page.

There's so much more that I could tell you about the software, but I hope that the above has whet your appetite and made you want to dash out and order a copy. I'm not saying that because I want to make an additional sale -- I'we already selling far
more copies than I ever anticipated! -- but because I know that if you give it a chance you'll absolutely love it. It really will make your life easier.

If you are serious about making a success of your online ventures then XSitePro really is a terrific tool and one that you should get hold of immediately. It doesn't make sense to struggle along with tools that weren't designed with internet marketing in mind.

Let me close with a few comments from people who have ordered over the past few days.

"XSitePro is a work of genius. Thanks!". That's from Matthew in the UK.

Reginald in Illinois says: "I just have one word to describe this software AMAZING!".

And just in case you are wondering about whether XSitePro is worth the money here's what Björn in Belgium had to say:

"I think the software is a little low priced. You can easily charge more for it I think. Also this is the first time I bought something online I actually got more than expected."

Paul Smithson and his Intellimon Ltd team (the developers of XSitePro software) done the best to make XSitePro a must-have piece of software and not just another utility that's here today and gone tomorrow, which is why it is packed to the brim with features and why it comes with a professional quality manual, a step-by-step tutorial, a user forum, and a dedicated online support line to help you to get the most from the software.

So, the ball is in your court now. You can either plod along with what you are currently using or you can take the plunge and get hold of a tool that is designed to help you to make a success of all your on-line ventures. The choice is yours.

Click here to download your XSitePro software copy right now!

Orders are processed immediately so you will have your download link and registration details within a couple of minutes of placing the order -- no matter what time of day it is. You can pay with any major credit card or via PayPal.

I hope we'll soon be welcoming you on board as a new user.

"Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish."

Valeriu

Search Engine Optimization Outperforms Paid Ads According to Research

Listen to this article Listen to this article as an mp3 file
Search engine optimization outperforms pay per click advertising according to new market research published today by iProspect.

35% of organizations that outsource their natural search engine optimization and also participate in pay per click advertising - and can measure the ROI of each - recognize a higher return from SEO. This compares to just 11% of marketers from the same universe who report that pat per click advertising produces higher ROI.

The iProspect Outsourced SEO Metrics and ROI Study also discovered that one out of two marketers who outsource their natural search engine optimization, and who also participate in pay per click advertising, cannot determine which of the two search channels produces a higher ROI.

Other high-level findings include:

* 1 out of 7 search marketers measure the overall ROI of their combined SEO and PPC campaigns, but cannot separate the individual ROI of the two different channels.

* 42% of search marketers who outsource BOTH the management of their SEO and the PPC campaigns, find that search engine optimization produces a higher ROI.

iProspect President, Robert Murray commented on the findings, ''Three times as many marketers who outsource the management of their natural search engine optimization and also participate in pay per click advertising recognize a higher ROI from SEO than from PPC. Clearly, there's something to be learned from that. I don't think sophisticated marketers, and those familiar with the escalation of bid prices in the PPC marketplace, will be surprised by the finding that SEO produces higher ROI. However, novice search engine marketers may be.''

Murray explained, ''For those new to the search engine marketing space, it would seem logical to conclude that based upon the vast number of marketers participating in pay per click advertising that it would be a more lucrative channel than natural search engine optimization - which is known to involve a lot more work. But, the numbers speak for themselves.''

The study also revealed that 45% of marketers who participate in both natural search engine optimization and pay per click advertising cannot determine whether SEO or PPC provides a higher ROI.

''The fact that organizations continue to invest in search engine optimization and pay per click advertising without being able to measure the ROI of each is alarming,” said iProspect's Director of Algorithmic Search, Dr. Naga Krothapalli. “And it has important implications. Most importantly, if an organization cannot determine the ROI of a medium, how can they justify continued investment in the channel, to say nothing of increasing that investment?''

Elite Positioning Brings Higher Profits

Listen to this article Listen to this article as an mp3 file

Imagine spending the same amount of money on marketing and performing the same amount of work to deliver your products or services, but earning more money and keeping more after your expenses. That's what happens when you institute elite positioning for your business.

With elite positioning, you are not any old accountant, cabinetmaker, software maker or fitness trainer. You deliver superiority or exclusivity and therefore charge (and get!) more. Here are five ways to add an aura of extraordinariness to your business.

1. Specialization. If as an accountant, you only work with family businesses, clients perceive you as more familiar with and more skillful in dealing with their unique issues and circumstances. Whether or not you really have that much more expertise is not the crucial factor. The clients' knowledge that you specialize makes them comfortable paying more for your services.

2. Selectivity. Suppose that as a cabinetmaker, you didn't take any job that came along, but only those that offered interesting aesthetic or technical challenges for you. In that case, clients feel grateful that you have taken on their project and understand that if you are turning away projects, you of course charge more than your competitor who serves one and all.

3. Better results. Do you have any very, very impressive testimonials, awards or performance figures that prove you get superior outcomes from the work that you do? If so, highlight those credentials and raise your prices. Clients understand that the software that never, ever crashes computers costs more than the buggy kind.

4. Fame. When you're the fitness trainer who's just appeared on Oprah - or actually who ever appeared on Oprah! - you have a license to charge premium fees. As with most other kinds of elite positioning, your skills aren't necessarily greater, but your visibility places you at a higher level than colleagues who aren't trailing clouds of media dust.

5. Self-confidence. Perhaps you don't specialize, turn away clients, get better results or have fame. If you have bravado and nerve, you can charge premium prices anyway. This works only if you can say, "I charge $400 an hour" (or whatever stratospheric fee you choose) without any wavering or uncertainty in your voice. Does this idea make you indignant? Then consider whether you're ready to charge more. If you believe deep down that you're worth it, then you have what it takes to pull off higher prices. Stop letting fear hold you back!

Google’s Quiet Revolution

Listen to this article Listen to this article as an mp3 file
We are witnesses to the seed planting of revolution. As the masses look for escape clauses in their SUV leases, real life distractions keep their thoughts focused elsewhere-Google's impact upon the world and its tech future is an obscure byline in the Wall Street Journal, or less, an industry news portal. Certainly the Paul Reveres of the tech world are shouting "Revolution!" and few are noticing.

Editor's Note: Is all this talk of what Google is doing just hype? Has speculation run out of control or is this a viable possibility? Discuss at WebProWorld.

Four years ago, Paul Graham set himself up as a prophet with a lengthy prognostication entitled "The Other Road Ahead." Google was still in its infancy, a geek-tool barely noticed, not even close to a household word, much less a verb. But Graham was speaking of the next generation of software delivered by Application Service Providers (ASP).

That vision of the future entailed a populace without a need for traditional operating systems, without even knowledge of what operating systems are. The desktop PC would be replaced by cheaper devices to access the Web, where all your software applications and data storage would be managed.

"When we look back on the desktop software era, I think we'll marvel at the inconveniences people put up with, just as we marvel now at what early car owners put up with. For the first twenty or thirty years, you had to be a car expert to own a car. But cars were such a big win that lots of people who weren't car experts wanted to have them as well.

"Computers are in this phase now. When you own a desktop computer, you end up learning a lot more than you wanted to know about what's happening inside it."

Indeed Grandma, wishing only for the quick utility of emailing family and friends and relishing the lightning availability of family photos, only needs a keyboard, a mouse, a screen, and an Internet connection. She has no need to know about the intricacies of her OS and integrated software. She just needs it to work.

Fast forward to 2005, as Google's secrecy about everything causes every small action to reverberate more than a press release, and causes Bill Gates and Microsoft to hold "secret" meetings they've entitled "The Google Challenge."

By Google offering up for free what industry leaders have been squeezing consumer expense accounts for 20 years or more, those cornerstone tech behemoths are getting nervous. And rightly so.

Business Week's Ben Elgin and Arik Hesseldahl have outlined a line-up of major players that Google appears to be launching an offensive against. The list is a roster of blockbusters about to have their own blocks busted and includes Microsoft, Verizon, Motorola, and eBay.

"In years past, Microsoft Corp. could freeze competitors and send investors scurrying just by uttering the name of a market it fancied. Today, Google Inc. is the 800-pound octopus that is filling potential rivals with dread and envy."

Let's have a quick review of recent Google news, bulleted just to make it easier (not a timeline, however).

--> Google woos Dr. Kai-Fu Lee from Microsoft, sets off non-compete lawsuit. Microsoft understandably worried Dr. Lee is just the biggest blister among a leprous body of talented engineers. Every bit of university talent worth anything is running to the Googleplex.

--> Google acquires mobile social networking software company Dodgeball and mobile phone software company Android Inc.

--> Google launches Froogle, an answer to eBay, to cool response. But excitement swells as the company admits to developing an online payment system similar to PayPal.

--> Google launches major initiative to digitize every scrap of paper in the literary world, whole nations rise up against it, publishers freak out.

--> Google offers email, instant messaging, telephony service, maps, Google Desktop, and soon, maybe horoscopes and chat services, as it makes its way to portal status.

--> As Yahoo! strikes deals with Verizon and SBC to provide high-speed Internet service, Google is investing in Current Communications Group that offers broadband over power lines, sponsoring WiFi hotspots in San Francisco, and quietly buying up "dark," or unused fiber-optic cable. Rumors swirl as to the possibility of an ad-supported, nationwide wireless network.

--> Google opens up $4 billion of stock to free up venture capital.

--> Google changes its "10 Things" corporate philosophy, in effect officially redefining itself.

--> Google cozies up with the best answer to Internet Explorer in years, Mozilla's Firefox.

--> Rumor: A Google server-based operating system with Linux support?

One has to wonder how long it will be until Google answers AOL's Xdrive, offering the public vast amounts of online storage. All of this seems amazingly close to Sun Microsystem's Jonathan Schwartz' imagining of a world where computing and Internet become as readily available and commonly used as electricity.

And then, there's Om Malik with:

"To some extent, Google is bringing back the architecture of the mainframe to render Microsoft obsolete. In the future, all computing devices, whether it be the PC, mobile phone, TV, etc., will simply be terminals that "plug-in" to Google's massive server grid and application services."

It appears the potential of Google goes beyond changing the lexicon, but may indeed change entire business models as the world switches on an ad-supported GoogleNet.

Niche Marketing, Google Tips, Search Engine Optimization on the Internet Marketing Profits Newsletter

Listen to this article Listen to this article as an mp3 file
Hi folks,Internet Marketing Profits Newsletter

It's been quit a long time since I do not post information on my blog about my internet marketing profits newsletter.

Well, it was summer. And what a summer!

But here it is, the Internet Marketing Profits Newsletter, issue 56:

1) "Tactics to Use To Skyrocket Your Internet Profits With Niche Marketing!"

Niche marketing has always been a key any success in marketing but lately it has become quite a prominent force in the online marketing world. Many books, manuals, courses, and web sites have been developed that focus on niche marketing. It is easy to find solid resources on the Internet that can teach you how to make money with niche marketing.

Niche marketing online is a distinct segment of Internet marketing and is the quickest way to get maximum exposure if you know how to leverage the search engines to draw attention to your niche web site.

There's many things to learn to be successful and profit from niche marketing and your USP (Unique Selling Proposition) will dictate exactly how to plan your attack to successfully market to customers in your niche. If you plan to use niche marketing to draw visitors to your web site, here's a few tactics that you can use to make money...

2) "Find a Need and Fill It."

In the world I operate in, time, plans and schedules don't always rank at the highest place of importance to creative thinking and ideas that you're working through or struggling with or are you're fixated on. Case in point... last weekend. Something caught my attention. And I became oblivious to the world.

After a long weekend at the office, I got fixated on a seemingly simple phrase that is the underpinning of virtually all great business and career achievement. But I realized through a fluke, that it also is the underpinning of all great relationships achieved.

It is one that is so obvious as to be almost overlooked in its implication by every one of us in our business, career or personal lives. What in the world am I talking about? Let me try to explain.

A foundational adage of business creation building is to "find a need and fill it". It's a simple concept that turns into more complex one as it relates to today's super competitive, pathetic, ambivalent, over educated, consumer-oriented environment...

View the Internet Marketing Profits Newsletter, issue 56 online.

But there's even more solid internet marketing profits tips on the Internet Marketing Profits Newsletter, issue 57:

1) "Discover What You DIDN'T KNOW About Your Favorite Search Engine -- And How You Can Use This Information to Grow Your Business!"

Less than seven years ago, a tiny company of 10 employees launched a web search engine. Today, that search engine attracts more than 81.9 million different visitors each month! Of course, the search engine I'm talking about is none other than Google.

Visitors can access Google's web site in over 100 different languages (including Klingon, Pig Latin, and, a personal favorite, Elmer Fudd). Search results are generated from over eight billion indexed web pages and one billion images. And over 50% of the traffic to Google.com comes from outside the US.

As the company has grown in numbers, it has also grown in scope. While Google is staying true to its philosophy of "doing one thing really, really well," it has expanded its reach in all kinds of different directions. If you haven't looked beyond the clean, simple interface of Google's main page, you are missing out on a LOT of great services and tools that can help you enhance your own business.

Google has a huge variety of services, tools, labs, and advertising avenues that every online entrepreneur should know about. Yet many people are unaware that Google is so much more than "just" a search engine. So let's look at some of the key resources you can use to benefit your online business...

2) "Hate Sites Using Search Engine Optimization -- Part 1."

Last summer, a disturbing trend started to emerge within Google's search results. Users started to notice that a hate site, jewwatch.Com was ranking in the first position for the term 'jew'. After doing some digging, I discovered that this was not an accident. It does appear that the owners of this, and a few other sites, have started to use basic SEO tactics to gain an audience online.

At USWeb we work with all sorts of clients to increase audience development. Our clients want to take full advantage of being in front of potential customers when they are searching for information. It makes sense that hate groups are equally motivated to get their message in front of as many people as possible.

I would like to take a few moments to examine what these sites are doing to push out their messages in Google...

Search Engine Wars - Quality Searches Vs Quantity!

Listen to this article Listen to this article as an mp3 file
It is no secret that Google and Yahoo are on a continuous battle to win our hearts and get everyone to convert, but is converting someone really a matter of the quantity or the quality? Let's take a look at some top key searches and compare them with some search engines online.

I will outline a few things for each search result:

1) Search Engine
2) Number of results found
3) Quality & content of the top 10 sites
4) What you find going beyond the first 10 pages

Each section will get ranked out of 10 points for quality (information taken on August 26,2005).

Starting with my all-time favorite search term: "INTERNET MARKETING"

Google.com
- 99,000,000 results
- 10/10 on quality
- 10/10 Past 10 pages still delivers top quality results

Yahoo.com
- 281,000,000 results
- 7/10 on quality. There's no reason to list a "Hotel Marketing Firm" & "Building websites". The #1 spot was reserved for Yahoo marketing.
- 9/10 Past 10 pages, it is very generic for business, not specific.

MSN.com
- 93,661,176 results
- 10/10 on quality
- 10/10 Past 10 pages still delivers high quality results. I am surprised and give MSN two thumbs up for their attention to detail.

Moving onto the search term for "BUSINESS NEWS"

Google.com
- 627,000,000 results
- 10/10 on quality
- 10/10 Beyond 10 pages delivers high quality & local news centers.

Yahoo.com
- 1,260,000,000 results (wow)
- 10/10 on quality
- 9/10 Beyond 10 pages. There are still some sites that should never be there.

MSN.com
- 381,631,054 results
- 8/10 on quality - Some aren't related at all and brand new sites as well.
- 10/10 beyond 10 pages. Their results seem to tighten up and get better.

Let's now take some more "local" search results to see deeper and more targeted results...

Moving on to the search term for "WASHINGTON UNIVERSITIES". I hope to find the "University of Washington" come up #1 or thereabouts.

Google.com
- 22,700,000
- 10/10 on quality (www.washington.edu is #1)
- 10/10 beyond 10 pages. The results still deliver "university" topics.

Yahoo.com
- 143,000,000 results
- 9/10 on quality - The top spot is reserved for Yahoo on Washington University in St. Louis. There seems to be a strong battle going on here on which university to list.
- 10/10 beyond 10 pages. Content is specific and relevant.

MSN.com
- 34,442,536 results
- 9/10 on quality - Again another battle going on and washington.edu is #10 tilting on the verge of page 2.
- 10/10 beyond 10 pages. All related to Washington & University living

Let's now get even more specific than that... For this search term I will be using something very local that I can relate to and give a better analysis.

Moving on to the search term for "HAMILTON ONTARIO CANADA".

Google.com
- 3,700,000 results
- 10/10 on quality - Great job
- 10/10 beyond 10 pages - Anything goes but is directly related to Hamilton.

Yahoo.com
- 14,900,000 results
- 10/10 on quality - Almost the same as Google but a couple of different choices.
- 9/10 on quality - Some results are found by keyword stuffing their pages.

MSN Local *New (http://search.msn.com/local/)
- 1,280,405 results
- 9/10 on quality - Getting some random placements & keyword stuffing
- 10/10+ beyond 10 pages - Many local companies well listed in the results.

Let's now take a look at these results as a total. Out of a possible score of 80 points, here are the total scores for each:

Google - 80 points
MSN - 76 points
Yahoo - 73 points

Total search results delivered:

Google - 752,400,000
Yahoo - 1,698,900,000
MSN - 511,015,171

And people wonder why Google is the king of searching?! But wait, without even noticing the results, as I totaled the final point standings, MSN came up in second place! In my study, I tried to be as neutral as possible.

How is it that Msn & Google have 50% the amount of results shown in Yahoo, but outrank Yahoo in quality?

In conclusion:

Even though Yahoo delivered a report stating that it has over 19 billion search items, what does it matter when you're still trying to figure out how to deliver all that content? MSN & Google seem to know exactly what to do with their results. They don't seem "off the wall" at all. If Yahoo is to step up and be crowned the search king, I really think that they need to refine the amount of search terms they have, to match the quality of search results as well.

Yahoo has major potential to outreach Google but they still have a lot of work ahead of them and by the time they figure things out, Google may even step up their game even further and wow us all on some other search plateau.
